Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced ex-gratia of Rs 4 crore for each next of kin of the three people who drowned in the Ganga River at Mekra village in Mokama district on Thursday morning.
“Tragic death of 3 people due to drowning in river Ganga at Mekra in Mokama police station area of Patna. I pray to God to give patience to the bereaved family members. Instructions have been issued to provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 4 crore each to the next of kin of all the deceased without delay,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
Three boys died after drowning in the river. The incident took place at Mahadev Sthan Ganga Ghat in Mokama Municipal Council area when five friends went to bathe in the Ganges.
The bodies of the three deceased were recovered, and they were identified as Shyam Kumar, Shivam Kumar and Ayush Kumar. This is the third such incident in the last three days when people have died due to drowning in the river.
The Mokama police reached the spot as soon as they received information about the incident. Earlier, at the beginning of Chaiti Chhath Puja, a young man died due to drowning in deep water at Mokama.
